Review: Limited Edition Hostess Cotton Candy Twinkies & I Am Drowning In Reusable Shopping Bags

JFG Nation, how many reusable shopping bags do you own? 25 years ago, if you brought reusable shopping bags to a grocery store, you’d be laughed out of the town. But now, no matter where you are, it seems like everyone has reusable shopping bags. Forget the whole good for the environment, the straps make things easier to carry blah blah blah. We get it. But now I have a problem: I HAVE WAY TOO MANY.

Now I get them everywhere! Open a new bank account? Here’s a free bag! Swinging by some random kiosk at the mall? Here’s a flyer – inside a free bag! New patient at the dentist? Use this toothbrush inside this free bag!

Not all bags are created equal and it is true that some of these canvass bags can barely hold cotton balls without ripping, but still – I probably have 20 canvas shopping bags. TWENTY! That is….that’s way too many.

What about you, JFG Nation? Let me know in the comments below. Have a good weekend!

Today’s junk food: Limited Edition Hostess Cotton Candy Twinkies!!

Cotton Candy Twinkies…hoooo boy. Isn’t Cotton Candy just sugar? Does Cotton Candy have a distinct flavor?.

DO THESE TASTE GOOD? …….Ooof, hard to give these a yes, but not enough to give these a hard “no.”

WHY OR WHY NOT? Let’s get right to it: the starting premise has to be “Do you like Twinkies?” If it’s yes, then turn to page 286. The filling has a very strange flavor…it isn’t the typical vanilla creme, so that’s good. It sort of had a thick marshmallow-y, slight bubble-gum-y flavor. Which….I dunno, some people like marshmallow fluff, and some people like bubble gum flavored things. I’m a sort of “meh” on both.

I guess it DID taste like how cotton candy tastes once it’s been reduced to the wet sugar in your mouth – that is, post sugar melt. Or, have you ever squeezed a bunch of cotton candy into a golf ball sized nub and just sucked on that? That sugar-y taste does somewhat come through here.

Eaten with the Twinkie cake, it’s not the worst Twinkie I’ve had in the world. In fact, these were better than some of the dry husks I’ve eaten before – I’m not sure if these were more oily than other Twinkies, but it was definitely moist.

All in all, I didn’t hate this. It tasted…fine….but again it really depends on what you’re looking for.

ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD KNOW? I’m not sure why I keep going to the well with these Twinkies when I don’t LOVE them.

PURCHASED AT: Walmart, Frederick, MD.

WHERE FOUND IN STORE? End cap.

COST? $2.50.

Sincerely,

The JFG

I have so many! I use these to avoid the 5 cents fee in the DMV area. I do give it away on occasion.

  2. Jessica says:

Not that many, in large part because I have used and abused mine until they have to be thrown away (I need my $.05 off per bag at Target, darnit!)

Other bags…ESPECIALLY those cheap drawstring backpacks…uggh, can’t get rid of them all.

  3. Michelle says:

I only have about half a dozen reusable shopping (grocery-sized) bags–a few from Safeway, and a couple “local” bags from Arizona and Washington state Trader Joes.

Now, other types of tote bags? I have way too many, in all kinds of sizes. I could probably get rid of half of them and still have enough to last me for the next 30 years.

Donate them to the Montgomery County Thrift Shop (http://www.mocothrift.org/) – just up the street on Wisconsin Ave in Bethesda.
