Review: Limited Edition Dunkin’ Donut Mocha Oreo & What Do You Do When You First Wake Up?

JFG Nation, like you, when Monday morning hits, I am not happy to wake up and get ready for work. Those first few minutes after shutting off the blaring alarm of phone are (amazingly) not spend scrolling through FB or IG or checking email. No; for me, those first few minutes are spent cursing and groaning. Yep I’m one of those.

When I wake up, I follow a weirdly precise routine. First, I let all the air out of my lungs in a stifled groan. Then I usually twist my head into the pillow, squeezing my eyes, quietly muttering, “Ugggghhhh whyyy.” This is usually follow by anywhere from 30 seconds to five minutes of me asking, aloud, to no one in particular, “Why am I so tired?” Finally, the JFGal will come out of the bathroom and prod me, saying “YOU’RE GOING TO BE LATE GET UP.” WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS. LET ME WALLOW IN MY OWN SELF PITY.

What about you, JFG Nation? Do you have a similar routine when you wake up in the morning? Do you meet the day, head on, birds singing? Or do you curse the sun, like me? Let me know in the comments below.

(Incidentally, I’m a morning person in general – I’m no night owl. So you’d think waking up would be some sort of gift. Nope.)

Today’s junk food: Limited Edition Dunkin’ Donut Mocha Oreo!!

For the longest time on the Nosh Show, on Nerd Lunch, on this blog, I have wondered aloud: WHERE IS THE COFFEE FLAVORED OREO? And here we are. Cross branded with Dunkin’ Donuts, this better deliver Oreo – because you have been HOLDING. OUT.

WHY OR WHY NOT? When I opened the packaging, I have to admit – I didn’t smell coffee. I didn’t smell mocha. I smelled…Oreos. Normal, plain, Oreos. I pressed my nose to the cookies – nothin’ reminded me of coffee.

However, once I popped a cookie into my mouth, MOCHA FLAVOR. Wow. After a few chews, the mocha coffee flavor revealed itself fully, and it was nice and bold and sweet. There was no mistaking the mocha flavor of these Oreos; the coffee flavor was just balanced oh so right with the chocolate flavor. I love coffee but I’m not sure I wanted more. The balance was just right – every coffee/chocolate iteration I’d ever eaten (frapps, tiramisu, mocha cakes) – they all came flooding back with this cookie. Oreo nailed this. FINALLY.

This Oreo sort of felt like I was chewing a mocha frappucino that had Oreo pieces blended in. Or an Oreo Coffee Coolatta. Or whatever contraption you can think of – this was it. I *LOVED* these. This combo is one of those that just makes sense, like the Reese’s Peanut Butter Oreo. Right up there. Wow.

PURCHASED AT: Walmart, Frederick, MD (but I also spotted them at Wegmans, Germantown, MD)

COST? $2.88.

I’ve been forced to become a morning person. Most days I wake up about 5-5:30 and try and catch up on as many of my online games as possible while I drink excessive amounts of coffee. I’ll eat breakfast at 7am.

If I have a day off or don’t work until late (like today), I’m in bed until 6:30 and keep trying to get myself to go back to sleep until 7.

Now I’m thinking we need a tiramisu Oreo. But I agree – coffee and Oreos are a perfect flavor combo and this was a long time coming.

I’m not really a morning person but I just go with the flow.

I do hope Oreos will do more coffee themed cookies like Jessica said. Tiramisu oreo thins has been released in other countries.

I am a complete morning person and wake up naturally between 2:30 and 3:30 – usually the former. I am fully awake the moment my eyes are open and I get up immediately. My husband is the exact opposite and there have been times when we have literally passed each with me getting up, him coming to bed.

I’ve come to terms with my inner Buddhist when waking up. I try to meet Adversity with gratitude, and if that fails, my bleariness in the real world serves as a meditation on the nature of suffering.
